Many story elements from Lego Star Trek were reused and repurposed for this series; including: X as the main villain, Kardok as his subordinate, and X's ultimate plan of supreme rule. The only major difference between the two is that this series takes place in the alternate reality of the 2250s, whereas Lego Star Trek takes place in an alternate 2380 - 2381.

- Star Trek Out of Reality is a wordplay of Star Trek Into Darkness, the twelfth film in the Star Trek franchise.
- STOR originally had no name, but CaptFredricks chose its current title as it seemed to fit well with the theme.
