- "Skirmish" is the 13th episode of [unknown story], written between the summer and fall of , and published on 12 October. It begins the four-part arc Spectres, which features the Devidians as the main antagonists.
- It is the first episode of Federation Legacy to be written in past tense; all previous episodes were originally written in present tense. CaptFredricks originally wanted to write all episodes in present tense to make the reader feel like (s)he was reading as the story was unfolding, but decided he liked writing in past tense better.
- This episode introduces Franklin Drake, a mysterious agent of Starfleet's Section 31, and features Elisa Flores as a more prominent character than before. It is also the first episode of Federation Legacy to feature Kardok, but he is not mentioned by name.
