The Federation Council was the legislative body of the United Federation of Planets.

History[]

In 2382, the Federation Council responded to the Klingon Empire's invasion of the Khitomer system with fierce condemnation, angering the Klingons and straining relations between the Federation and the Empire. In 2399, the Council once again issued criticism toward the Empire when they invaded Gorn space, initiating the Klingon-Gorn War. In response, Klingon Chancellor J'mpok withdrew from the Khitomer Accords, leaving the future of the alliance between the two powers in question.

In 2401, multiple active and retired Starfleet officers petitioned the Council to lift its harsh rebuke of the Klingon-Gorn War and lend support to the Klingons, but the Council refused their pleas. Ambassador Worf completely broke his ties with the Federation due to the Council's decision.

Years later, some Starfleet officers, including Fleet Admiral Jorel Quinn, believed the Council's refusal to take a side in the war was ultimately a grave mistake and was the main trigger for the Federation-Klingon War.[1]

On an unspecified date, the Council assigned T'Par to a sector nearby Starbase 39 in order to gain intel on the Romulan Star Empire. This backfired when she stopped reporting in at the scheduled rendezvouses.[2]
