The USS Columbia picks up a faint life sign in the Gamma Orionis sector. They discover a damaged 21st century NASA spacecraft with a man in deep cryo sleep. They revive the man, named Simon Smith, and bring him back to Earth.^{[citation needed]}

Starfleet Cadet Naomi Smith becomes Simon Smith's guardian until he is reintegrated with time.^{[citation needed]}

Unspecified date

A number of influential Starfleet officers, both active and retired, attempt to persuade the Federation Council to reconsider its position on the Klingon-Gorn War. Their petition is unsuccessful, and Ambassador Worf cuts ties with the Federation.
